Passing Away of Georgia Dariotis

DARIOTIS, Georgia (5)Born April 19, 1924 in Portland, Oregon. Passed away peacefully August 21, 2015 in Sacramento, California surrounded by her family at home. Georgia was the daughter of Greek immigrants, Chris and Anastasia Dussin, who were in the restaurant business in Portland, Oregon. She attended Willamette University until she met and married her husband, Michael Dariotis, Sr. in September 1946. They were married 58 years until his death in 2004. Georgia worked in the family restaurants all her life, initially working the cash register at the counter in her father’s cafe. Georgia was the sister to Guss Dussin, founder of The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurants which started in 1969 in Portland, Oregon. She and her husband Mike were part owners of that original Old Spaghetti Factory and Georgia worked for many years in the Portland restaurant. In 1978, Georgia & Mike moved their family to Sacramento to open the first Old Spaghetti Factory Franchise in the old Western Pacific Train Depot on J Street and 19th. Georgia was an integral part of the family business from greeting people to over-seeing the day to day financial operations of the business. She and Mike were a strong team and helped their three sons to expand the business to the thirteen franchise locations they operate today in California. Her deep love for her family and her commitment to the family business defined her life. She bravely endured breast cancer and a long fight with dementia but she was lovingly supported by her family and her many grandchildren and later her great grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge Lorena Ikanevere and Joana Evanson for the seven years of loving and compassionate care for Georgia. She will be greatly missed. Georgia is survived by her four children, George Dariotis and wife Christine, Chris Dariotis and wife Gretchen, Rhea Brunner and husband Dan, and Michael Dariotis Jr., her grandchildren Matthew, Nicholas and Lauren Brunner, Chris, Ali, Caity and Luke Dariotis, five great grandchildren, her sister Alice and sister-in-law Sally Dussin. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Mike and her brother Guss. Family and friends are invited to attend the Trisagion Service on Thursday, August 27th at 7pm and the funeral service on Friday, August 28th at 11am – both services to be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church – 600 Alhambra Blvd. A meal of remembrance (Makaria) will be held in the church hall following the burial at East Lawn Cemetery on Folsom Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgia D. Dariotis Memorial Fund at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 600 Alhambra Blvd.
